Since 1980, The Royal Mint has produced limited-edition Half Sovereigns with a proof finish for collectors, alongside a bullion version designed for investors.
All Half Sovereigns are struck in 3.99 grams of 22-carat (91.67%) gold and measure 19 millimetres in diameter. These coins carry a portrait of the reigning monarch on the obverse, while the reverse typically shows the famous Saint George and the dragon design, although earlier issues featured a shield motif.
