The gold proof fifty pence piece is made of 22 carat gold, and weighs 26.32 grams. It has a pure gold content of 0.7751 ounces.

The 1992 gold proof fifty pence piece was issued by the Royal Mint to commemorate the United Kingdoms’s Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and the completion of the European Single Market which came into effect on the 1st January 1993.
The reverse design shows the representation of a table on which are placed twelve stars, linked by a network of lines to each other. There are twelve chairs around the table, on one of which appears the letters ‘UK’. The design was created by Mary Milner Dickens.

The gold proof fifty pence piece is made of 22 carat gold, and weighs 26.32 grams. It has a pure gold content of 0.7751 ounces.
The coin is housed in its original Royal Mint red leatherette presentation case, accompanied with a individually numbered certificate of authenticity.
Only 1,864 1992 gold proof fifty pence pieces were issued by the Royal Mint in 1992.

The older style 50p piece was much larger compared to today’s circulating 50p coins. The 1992-93 gold proof fifty pence piece (EEC) and the 1994 gold proof fifty pence piece (50th anniversary of the D Day Landings) weigh 26.32 grams. The smaller 50 pieces were issued in gold from 1998, the first commemorating the 25th anniversary of the United Kingdom’s accession to the EEC. Since 1998, the gold proof fifty pence piece has a weight of 15.5 grams.
