2002 Two Pound Coin - Commonwealth Games England

In 2002 the XVII Commonwealth Games were held in Manchester, England. Four £2 coins were produced for the event but the design only varied slightly with a different flag for each of the British home countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. This is the England coin.

The base design is by Matthew Bonaccorsi who depicted an athlete holding a banner. The inscription is 'COMMONWEALTH GAMES 2002'.

The obverse is the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

Edge inscription reads 'SPIRIT OF FRIENDSHIP, MANCHESTER 2002'.
