2002 Gold Proof Crown Five Pounds - Golden Jubilee

The 2002 gold proof 'Golden Jubilee' crown was one of two gold proof coins designs that were issued by the Royal Mint in 2002. This particular design was issued to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.

Both the obverse and reverse designs were created by Ian Rank-Broadley.

The obverse shows a new portrait of The Queen with the denomination 'FIVE POUNDS'.

The reverse depicts an equestrian portrait of The Queen with the inscription 'ELIZABETH II DEI GRA REGINA FID DEF' around the circumference, and 'AMOR POPULI PRAESIDIUM REG' within. The date '2002' can be seen below separated by the central element of the Royal Arms.

The 2002 Gold Proof Golden Jubilee Crownis is made of solid 22 carat gold (Gold fineness of 0.916).

Originally the Crown would be housed in its original Royal Mint acrylic capsule. The coin is presented in its Royal Mint purple velvet case, with a outer card sleeve, accompanied with an individually numbered certificate of authenticity (COA).

The gold crown has a weight of 39.94 grams.

Only 3,500 gold proof 'Golden Jubilee' crowns were issued by the Royal Mint in 2002.
