2000 Gold Sovereign Proof

Both Proof Gold Sovereigns (about 10,000 individually boxed issued) and a large mintage (about 129,000) of bullion sovereigns were issued in 2000.

The 2000 sovereign is also known as the 'Millennium' sovereign.

Benedetto Pistrucci's famous portrayal of St. George slaying the dragon is depicted on the reverse of the coin.

Queen Elizabeth II's fourth portrait can be seen on the obverse, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.

The sovereign is made of solid 22 carat gold (Gold Fineness of 0.916), and weighs 7.98 grams. It has a diameter of 22.05mm.

The coin was originally housed in a Royal Mint acrylic screw top capsule, presented in its Royal Mint black velvet case, with outer black card box, accompanied with an individually numbered certificate of authenticity.
