1999 Gold Sovereign Proof

Only Proof Gold Sovereigns were issued in 1999; no bullion sovereigns were minted. About 10,000 individual sovereigns were issued.

Benedetto Pistrucci's famous portrayal of St. George slaying the dragon is depicted on the reverse of the coin.

Queen Elizabeth II's fourth portrait can be seen on the obverse, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.

The sovereign is made of solid 22 carat gold (Gold Fineness of 0.916), and weighs 7.98 grams. It has a diameter of 22.05mm.

The coin was originally housed in a Royal Mint acrylic screw top capsule, presented in its Royal Mint maroon leatherette case, accompanied with an individually numbered certificate of authenticity (COA).
