1990 Gold Sovereign Proof

Only Gold Proof Sovereigns were issued in 1990. Only just over 8000 were minted so it was a fairly low issue at the time.

Benedetto Pistrucci's famous portrayal of St. George slaying the dragon is depicted on the reverse of the coin.

Queen Elizabeth II's third portrait can be seen on the obverse, designed by Raphael Maklouf.

The sovereign is made of solid 22 carat gold (Gold Fineness of 0.916), and weighs 7.98 grams. It has a diameter of 22.05mm.

The coin was originally housed in its original Royal Mint acrylic screw top capsule, presented in its Royal Mint maroon leatherette case, accompanied with an individually numbered certificate of authenticity (COA).
