1982 Gold Sovereign Proof

Just over 22,000 individually boxed proof sovereigns were issued by the Royal Mint in 1982.

Benedetto Pistrucci's famous portrayal of St. George slaying the dragon is depicted on the reverse of the coin. Queen Elizabeth II's second portrait can be seen on the obverse, designed by Arnold Machin.

The sovereign is made of solid 22 carat gold (Gold Fineness of 0.916), and weighs 7.98 grams. It has a diameter of 22.05mm.

The coin was originally issued housed in a Royal Mint acrylic screw top capsule, presented in its Royal Mint black leatherette foam case, accompanied with a certificate of authenticity (COA).
