1981 Gold Sovereign Proof

Only 32,960 individually boxed proof sovereigns were issued by the Royal Mint in 1981.

Queen Elizabeth II's second portrait can be seen on the obverse, designed by Arnold Machin. Benedetto Pistrucci's famous portrayal of St. George slaying the dragon is depicted on the reverse of the coin.

The sovereign is made of solid 22 carat gold (Gold Fineness of 0.916), and weighs 7.98 grams. It has a diameter of 22.05mm.

The coin was issued as housed in an original Royal Mint acrylic screw top capsule, presented in its Royal Mint light brown leatherette foam case, accompanied with a certificate of authenticity (COA).
