The reverse design depicts the famous Pagoda, entwined by various vines, designed by Christopher LeBrun. Queen Elizabeth II's fourth portrait can be seen on the obverse, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. The gold proof 50p is made of 22 carat gold, and weighs 15.5 grams. The 2009 Kew Gardens Gold Proof Fifty Pence piece is housed in its original Royal Mint wooden presentation case, with outer black card box and a certificate of authenticity. Only 629 gold Kew Gardens 50p pieces were struck by the Royal Mint. The 2009 Kew Gardens 50p design is extremely collectable, with the standard coin being one of the lowest mintage coins produced for circulation.
