1923 South Africa Proof Set

Description

The set was the first coinage to be issued by the Union of South Africa. The set for sale is missing the two gold coins, the 1923 South Africa gold proof sovereign and half sovereign, but contains the silver proof half crown, florin, shilling, sixpence and threepence, along with the copper penny, half penny and farthing. The coins are in good condition, but have been cleaned at some point during their life. Only 655 sets were issued by the South African Mint. The coins are housed in their original dark red Mappin and Webb presentation case. Due to the low mintage, these sets are extremely difficult to find.
