The 2015 Longest Reigning Monarch Gold Proof Five Pounds depicts a crown with the years 1952 – 2015, designed by James Butler.
Queen Elizabeth II’s special 90th birthday portrait can be seen on the obverse of the coin, designed by James Butler.
The coin is made of 22 carat gold (Gold fineness of 0.916), and is housed in its original Royal Mint acrylic screw top capsule. The coin is presented in its Royal Mint wooden presentation case, accompanied with an individually numbered certificate of authenticity.
The gold proof five pounds piece, also referred to as a crown, has a weight of 39.94 grams, with a diameter of 38.61mm.
Only 1,000 2015 Longest Reigning Monarch gold proof five pounds pieces were issued by the Royal Mint in 2015.

The first gold five pound piece (£5) was issued during the reign of King George III in 1820. It was not issued as a circulation piece, but for the collectors market only. Gold five pounds pieces were also issued in 1826 and 1839 as part of a proof coin set. It wasn’t until 1887 when a gold five pounds piece was issued for circulation purposes.
There are two basic kinds of gold five pounds coin: the gold £5 (quintuple sovereign) type and the gold Crown. They are both made of 22 carat gold, and weigh exactly the same (39.94 grams). The diameter of the gold crown is slightly larger than the £5 piece at 38.61mm.
The first gold proof five pounds crown was issued in 1990 to commemorate the 90th birthday of the Queen Mother.
