Description

Benedetto Pistrucci’s famous portrayal of St. George slaying the dragon is depicted on the reverse of the coin.
Queen Elizabeth II’s second portrait can be seen on the obverse, designed by Raphael Maklouf.
The sovereign is made of solid 22 carat gold (Gold Fineness of 0.916), and weighs 7.98 grams. It has a diameter of 22.05mm.
The coin is housed in its original Royal Mint acrylic screw top capsule, presented in its Royal Mint red leatherette presentation box case, accompanied with a certificate of authenticity.
Only 9,177 individually boxed proof sovereigns were issued by the Royal Mint in 1997.
