The 1903 London Sovereign depicts Benedetto Pistrucci’s famous portrayal of St George slaying the dragon can be seen on the reverse of the coin. No letter above the date indicates the sovereign was produced in London.
King Edward VII’s portrait can be seen on the obverse of the coin.

King Edward VII ascended to the throne in 1901 on the death of his mother, Queen Victoria. He was crowned king in 1902, and reigned until his death in 1910. Gold Sovereigns were minted in all corners of the British Empire during his reign, including London, Ottawa, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne.Each coin has it’s own history behind it, the gold used to make it, where it was struck, and how it came to be here today. A gold sovereign has a face value of £1, and is still a legal tender coin today (Although you wouldn’t want to spend it for a £1 anymore!). The 1903 London sovereign would be an ideal birthday present or special gift.
