This was the first year a sovereign was minted in Perth, Australia. Only 690,922 sovereigns were produced at the Perth mint in 1899.
The 1899 Perth Sovereign PCGS MS62 is made of 22 carat gold, and weighs 7.98 grams.
Benedetto Pistrucci’s famous portrayal of St George and the dragon can be seen on the reverse of the sovereign (A small ‘P’ just above the date indicates the coin was minted in Perth, Australia). Queen Victorias Widow head can be seen on the obverse of the coin.
