Description
The 1859 ‘Ansell’ sovereign is one of the more famous variety sovereigns to be minted.
This very rare coin (maybe only 15-25 still in existence) was created when George Ansell tested an experimental alloy of gold. The only noticable difference between this and the standard 1859 issue is an additional ribbon used to tie back Queen Victoria’s hair.
The Ansell sovereign has been graded by NGC as AU-53.
