To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the fifty pence piece, the Royal Mint issued a special 16 coin gold proof collection. The set features the 16 different designs issued on the 50p piece from 1969 to 2009. All 16 coins are made of 22 carat gold, and weigh 15.5 grams each. Some of the designs used include the 1992-1993 EEC and 2009 Kew Gardens.

The 2009 Royal Mint 16 coin gold proof fifty pence piece collection was issued to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the 50p piece. Each one of the 16 coins depicts a different design, one for each of the reverses used from 1969 to 2009. All of the coins are dated 2009:

Only 125 sets were issued by the Royal Mint. Each coin weighs 15.5 grams, and is made of 22 carat gold.

All 16 coins are housed in their original Royal Mint presentation case, accompanied with a certificate of authenticity.
